Any chance you could make a widget that toggles between 0% and 100% in 1 click? The only time I need to switch brightness is while driving in my car and the sun is shining on the screen.
Apologize for my bad english, I deliberate on its a gracious hell of your writing. Kind-heartedly I have faced alot of difficulties in this form but your article discretion definately eschew me in future. Say thank you You
I also have the Sprint HTC Hero and noticed the same issue where the backlight would change temporarily, but once the widget is exited the backlight would change back. I did notice though, if using the widget and setting the backlight to a level, then going into “settings, sound & display” it will then move to the level that was chosen in the widget. Not sure if that will help troubleshoot and getting this to work on the Hero.
I can confirm Jon’s post above. The Sprint HTC Hero does register the change to the brightness system setting, but until I go through the usual system menus it won’t stay active.
I agree. I’ve seen plenty of widgets and this one is sleek. The only thing that would make it better would be an option to turn auto back on. I’d even be happy with removing one button and allowing: 0%, 33%; 66%; 100%; Auto.
I just installed this app on my HTC Tattoo (1.6 firmware – Donut), but it doesn’t work as expected. I touch the widget and select the brightness, but once selected the brightness settings return to original level.
Hi,I’m just curious about how you can set the brightness programmically.I’m also trying to make a widget for setting the brightness.Would you like sharing a bit that knowledge~Many thanks~
Can I make a request for a widget that toggle between screen ON and screen time out please?
Thank you for all you widget, they definitely made my phone a more user friendly one!
Thank you very much!
Have noticed an issue on my Xperia X10: I I choose 100% brightness via this widget (either by pressing the 100% button or selecting it via the slider), the brightness reverts to whatever it was set to previously (ie: the 100% brightness doesn’t take). However, selecting 99% via the slider works fine.
The same behavior at my Sony Xperia X10.
The click on the 100% Button set the display brightness to 0%. If I set the Display brightness via build in system setting to 100%, in the widget is shown 99%.
Can you fix this?
Maybe you can ask the system which device it is and if it is an X10 use 99% instead of 100%.
Has a bug on my Xperia X10. 100% brightness sets the phone to its minimum level of brightnes (it is the same as setting it to 0%).
And I agree with Phogster: It would be nice to be able to set the widged to toggle x% and 100% brightness with one click (20% and 100% for example)
Works fine here on my Desire with 2.2 and Sense. Is there however a possibility to increase the size of the widget, so that it’s the same size as the HTC Settings widgets? It’s a tad bit smaller now.
Hi, I just installed the widget and added it to the home screen. It worked perfectly fine, until I accidentally clicked 0% which turned the whole screen to black. Now, I can’t see anything. Is there any way to change it back to something else? Is this working as designed or some kind of error?
Hi,
What with ‘auto’ option? In general I always use ‘auto’, but sometimes i need for a while switch to 100% (very bright environment) or to minimum (reading ebooks at night). Switching back to auto is my main need.

Thanks for the very useful widget. Would it be possible to have and additional brightness level (15%) as I normally have a dim screen to save battery, and 25% is a little higher than I usually use. (0%, 15%, 25%, 50%, 75%, 100%, Auto).
Another option would be to set the brightness level using the slider and then pressing and holding on a specific button would transfer the current brightness to that button (with updated percentage display). This would allow specific brightness levels to be set up on a user-by-user basis.

Great work, thanks for all your effort. I would wholeheartedly agree with a couple of other posters in that I’d love a toggle just between 0 and 100% brightness. Might it be possible to include this even as a separate widget in the pack so that people can maintain the customisability of the current version, but also be able to toggle the absolutes if they wish? The simpler the better I think, I wouldn’t want any options at all tbh, just a toggle between 0 and 100, or maybe to be safe, 1 and 100 to prevent the black screen problems some people have? I’d love to know your thoughts.

I like this widget and it works great, but can you make the brightness levels configurable please? On my HTC Desire S, 0-25-50 are much bigger jumps in brightness than 50-75-100, so I’d like to be able to configure something like 0, 15, 30, 50, 75, 100.

Hi Vladimir, I sent you an email about this problem, but did not hear back from you, so I am posting here.
I installed Brightness Level widget on my htc evo, and immediately started having the following problems with the display. The problems continue, even after I un-installed the widget:
1. The status bar “flickers”, for lack of a better way to describe it…it is as if it is continually being swiped up and down, and at times it moves down completely all by itself with no input. Sometimes items in the status bar list are selected, also without any actual input from me. This “flicker” interferes with attempts to input via swipes, touches, etc, in any other area of the screen, including softkeyboards, etc.
2. Sometimes the status bar is “frozen” and does not respond to a swipe, even though the rest of the screen responds normally.
2. The entire display periodically “freezes”, and does not respond to any touch. This has even happened during an incoming call, preventing me from answering the call.
Please advise me on how to COMPLETELY REMOVE this widget, and/or whatever code installed by your widget is causing this. If you respond here, please also notify me via email of your response. Thanks….
Can you add 15 and 30%? Or just let us customize the buttons? That would be nice, or it would also be nice if you would provide the source code. Thanks.
I like the brightness level widget, but for some reason the set level does not show up on the screen widget on my HTC Thunderbolt but does show up on my wifes Thunderbolt. All I get is the plain widget. I have tried rebooting the phone and that did not help.
Thank you for this wonderful app!
I have a suggestion on it.
I’m sure that adding fuction of customizable button will make this app more perfect.
(In customizable button, preferred brit. level digit can be designated.)
I use this app daily. Can you add a custom button. I toggle between 10% and 100%, and it’d be nice if we had a custom button or 2, that saves the % we want to use. Thank you.
Does the phone have to have an automatic brightness setting for this to work or will this create one? I am looking for an auto-brightness setting but it doesnt seem that my phone has that. It just has a power saving widget that goes from zero to midlevel to 100% brightness. I was looking for something to auto-bright depending on the surroundings…but from the description, it seems like this will only put a toggle widget on an existing phone function.
Downloaded and installed OK. Displayed widget on desktop. Started widget. Stupid me selected 0 brightness. Cannot see screen, cannot change brightness. Reboot device. Device boots, screen blank. I can unlock but cannot see screen. cannot reset brightness. HELP!!!!
Toggles ftw > more clicks. How about a widget that you are able to define the 3 settings it rotates through when you click it on the home screen. That was I could have 15%, 25% and Auto rotating on a click. I’d be willing to help with whatever basic assistance I could provide.
I have a NATPC M009s 7″ tablet on which I have installed your brightness level app as I did with an android phone, unfortunatly I set it to 0% brightness, whereas with the phone this dims it down but is still readable with the tablet it has blanked the screen completely so I can not see the icon to adjust the brightness up so i can see it!
The android logo comes up when i power up and down but then the screen goes “blank”
I have tried reset and have done a lot of blind tapping on the screen to no avail, could anybody suggest how I can get my screen back?
Hi, just installed it on Vimicro Wopad V8 tablet and accidentally touched 0%. Reboot doesn’t reset the brightness. Screen stays blank. Any help would be much appreciated.
I have an iRulu Knightpad and used the Brightness Widget. it works great except, when i hit 25% brightness, it made my screen go completely black. I cannot reset it because i can’t see anything. after Model Logo and Android Logo on boot up, screen goes dark. if i hard reset, the screen flickers for just an instant which tells me behind the black screen, my tablet is still operating. I don’t know what to do at this point. since i already rooted my device, my warranty is void. i cannot return it to the manufacturer. is there any advice you can render?
Is it is it possible you can make the widget able to be reduced in size? I run a theme on my android device which is a 5×5 icon grid that makes the icons smaller in size. Having one oversized widget looks terrible.
Is it possible for the Auto setting to use only between A% and B%, where “A%” and “B%” are controlled by sliders? I never use auto, cause it’s always brighter than it needs to be.
E.g. I would use Auto between 10% and 60%, but between 0% and 100% has the ends on the scale either too dark or too bright.
Feel free to contact for more info and thanks for an amazing set of apps!
Hi, I find your widget the best one for handling brightness, but I would really appreciate the possibility to change the preset values, those in buttons. Many thanks. Alfredo.
But on my Motorola Atrix 4G I usually set the brightness level to 8%.
If I change it to 75% because I am outdoor with sunshine I have to use
the slider to get back to 8%. That’s a little bit complicated.
A configurable button with a percentage value which I can define by myself
would be prefect.
Love your app.
On some AOSP ICS roms (I had tied) I did encounter the following:
Initially the app works fine, but after some time (even after several reboots) , it stops chnging the brigtness levels when pressed. The change to brightness only occurs when after one chosses a level, the effect takes place only after the screen is turned off and then on again.
I find this brightness invaluable. It was the first app that I ever purchased on Android and still the most useful.
I have one suggestion: On my phone the brightness does not seem to be linearly proportional to the percentage setting. I would find it more useful if the presets were 0%, 12%, 25%, 50% and 100% as I never use 75% and often use the slider to set about 10 to 15%

Thank you.

It would be nice if it would be possible to customize (by the user) the brightness levels and number of buttons. Thanks!

Toggles ftw > more clicks. How about a widget that you are able to define the 3 settings it rotates through when you click it on the home screen. That was I could have 15%, 25% and Auto rotating on a click. I’d be willing to help with whatever basic assistance I could provide.

Dear Curvefish,
I have a NATPC M009s 7″ tablet on which I have installed your brightness level app as I did with an android phone, unfortunatly I set it to 0% brightness, whereas with the phone this dims it down but is still readable with the tablet it has blanked the screen completely so I can not see the icon to adjust the brightness up so i can see it!
The android logo comes up when i power up and down but then the screen goes “blank”
I have tried reset and have done a lot of blind tapping on the screen to no avail, could anybody suggest how I can get my screen back?
All help greatfully received!
Many thanks.
Neil

Alfredo.

The widget is great.
Thanks

Love your app.
On some AOSP ICS roms (I had tied) I did encounter the following:
Initially the app works fine, but after some time (even after several reboots) , it stops chnging the brigtness levels when pressed. The change to brightness only occurs when after one chosses a level, the effect takes place only after the screen is turned off and then on again.
Please advice

I find this brightness invaluable. It was the first app that I ever purchased on Android and still the most useful.
I have one suggestion: On my phone the brightness does not seem to be linearly proportional to the percentage setting. I would find it more useful if the presets were 0%, 12%, 25%, 50% and 100% as I never use 75% and often use the slider to set about 10 to 15%
Thanks for a great little widget
